JUBA – South Sudan Vice President Taban Deng Gai has proposed the appointment of ex-minister of interior Michael Chiengjiek Gey for the governorship of the country’s Unity state, sources close to the former First Vice President said.

A senior Taban Deng official told Sudans Post last week that the controversial politician had been given a favor by President Salva Kiir to nominate governor for Unity state where he also served as governor between 2005 and 2017.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, a senior government official working at the office of the vice-president said Taban has selected Chiengjiek Gey, a minister in the revitalized unity government, as the person for unity state governor.

“H.E the vice-president Taban Deng Gai has selected Hon. Chiengjiek Gey for unity state governorship,” the source said from Juba.

The source however said the president has rejected the appointment of Chiengjiek and asked Taban to “select another person.”
