TEREKEKA—The caretaker commissioner of Terekeka County in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State has banned traditional dances at Freedom Square every Saturday.

The Local Order No. 02/2026, signed by Abraham Kenyi John on October 13, 2026, takes effect immediately.

“I, Hon. Abraham Kenyi John, Caretaker Commissioner, do hereby issue this Order No. 02/2026 for the stopping of traditional dance every Saturday at Freedom Square in Terekeka County,” the order seen by this publication states.

The directive does not explain the reasons for the ban or specify how long the restriction will remain in force. It also does not clarify whether traditional dances at other venues or on other days are affected.

When contacted by Sudans Post, Kenyi declined to provide further explanation, saying he had already issued the order and did not need to explain further.

Terekeka County, one of the counties of Central Equatoria, is known for its rich cultural traditions, with traditional dances serving as an important part of community life and a way of preserving cultural heritage and bringing people together during social gatherings and celebrations.
