AWEIL WEST – Police are holding three suspects in connection with the burning of Udhum market in Aweil West County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State last week.

The three female suspects were questioned over the fire incident.

Speaking to Sudan Post on Thursday, the Police director, Atak Wol Kiir said the suspect, who denied involvement in the fire incident, will be arraigned in court.

“These three women were in a restaurant and many people claim that they were the ones who started the fire. We are going to send them to the attorney who would then send them to court as the destruction was so huge,” he explained.

Kiir said a total of 130 structures were badly destroyed, infuriating many people.

He called for vigilance especially among citizens in densely populated areas.

Last month, a similar fire incident destroyed shops in Maper-Akot-aru market.
