Top member of Agwelek delegation in Juba abandons Olony

JUBA, FEBRUARY 19^th 2023 (SUDANS POST) – A senior member of the opposition Agwelek advance team in Juba and member of a joint military committee for integration of Agwelek forces into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) has tendered his resignation.

In a statement seen by Sudans Post, Colonel Omojok Obac Denyong said he has resigned with immediate effect from the opposition group, describing his abrupt resignation as a constitutional right provided for in the law.

“In exercise of my constitution and legal right guided by law, I Colonel Omojok Obac Denyong do hereby tender my resignation from SPLM/A (IO) Kit-Gwang and AGWELEK forces under the leadership of Gen. Johnson Olony Thabo with immediate effect,” he said in the statement.

The senior member of Olony’s group did not cite reasons as to what has led to his resignation from the opposition movement, but vowed to “continue to work constructively locally and nationally to serve our citizens in different way.”

AGWELEK INTEGRATION STALLS

Speaking to Sudans Post exclusively, a senior member of the group’s advance team in Juba who requested not to be named said there has no been progress in the integration of General Johnson Olony’s forces into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces.

“We came here around this time last year. At first, we appeared to be on the right truck for the implementation of the agreement we signed with the government in Khartoum in January 2022, but now, it is true that the signing was a different thing and its implementation is a different issue,” he said.

“Now, even the formation of offices to integrate our forces in Upper Nile and in Jonglei state has not been implemented. We don’t see any preparation to indicate that all the parties who signed the agreement are committed into its implementation,” he added.

The senior official further said that their requests to meet the leadership of the National Transitional Committee under presidential advisor on security affairs Tut Gatluak Manimeh have been turned down which is the case for their requests to meet President Kiir.

“We cannot meet Tutkew who was the one responsible for the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and the Khartoum Peace Agreement we signed with the government in January 2022. We haven’t been also allowed to meet President Kiir. So, things are now clear,” the official added.
