Top SSPDF commander dies in Juba

Former South Sudan opposition commander turned South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) commander Gen. Wang Chiok Koryom, has died in Juba of heart attack, several sources with direct knowledge have said.

JUBA – Former South Sudan opposition commander turned South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) commander Gen. Wang Chiok Koryom, has died in Juba of heart attack, several sources with direct knowledge have said.

“This is to confirm that General Wang Chiok has passed away. He died of heart attack because he was not sick and we were surprised about his death because he was healthy and had not complaining of any problem before his death,” one source who requested not to be identified said.

General Wang was a senior SPLA-IO commander loyal to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, but joined then joined Taban Deng Gai in 2017 after the later replaced Machar following the collapse of a 2015 peace agreement.

He was integrated into South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) in 2018 where he was deployed at Bilpam, the headquarters of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).

He was deployed in Bilpam as a member of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces High Command Council.
