AWEIL — Police in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State detained two men on Thursday for allegedly stabbing a 30-year-old man whom they accused of stealing watermelons from their farm.
Mabior Mabior, 30 years old, has been accused of stealing a mobile phone and watermelons on separate occasions.
Mr. Daniel Deng Deng, Administrator of Nyalath Payam of Aweil Center County, told Sudans Post two brothers were arrested after stabbing a man they accused of stealing from them.
Deng explained that two brothers were hired by a middle-income farmer to work on his farm when Mabior Mabior stormed their farm and stole a watermelon a day after he had stolen their phone.
“We then afterwards arrested the two young men identified as Malual and Guot; both are brothers who were working for someone’s farm,” said Deng.
He said the two brothers, Malual Guot and Guot Guot, aged 21 and 25, respectively, stabbed the accused on the arm and neck before he was rescued by other farmers.
“It was something that surprised everyone. The victim was bleeding profusely, so we had to rush him first to a local clinic for first aid and then he was referred to Aweil, where he is being taken care of by nurses.”
He said the suspects are undergoing investigation as they wait for the victim to gain strength before they are taken to court.
“They don’t have proper custody in Nyalath Payam; we are planning to take two suspects together with a man they stabbed to court,” he said.
He called on the state government to construct a cell in Nyalath payam to keep those suspects who commit crimes.
He said the cases of theft and robbery are on the rise in Nyalath Payam.
