Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, speaking to Sudans Post, said the attack occurred at 6:30 PM near Adior Payam in Yirol East County.
The police mouthpiece said the assailants fled after the attack, and heightened security measures are in place amid fears of further violence.
“So, these are few incidences that we registered for the weekend because the attackers were from Panyijiar County of Unity State,” Makuac said.
He clarified that Panyijiar County is the only area of Unity State bordering Yirol East County.
“We believe the attackers were from Panyijiar County,” he added.
Makuac urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security forces by providing early information so authorities can intervene to protect lives.
“Finally, my message to the people is that maintain calm and remain vigilant, especially our areas which are along the border between Panyijiar, Yirol East, Rumbek Centre, Rumbek East, and other areas bordering Mayendit, and Tonj North, Tonj East, and Tonj South,” he said.
“I want them to remain vigilant all the time and they should cooperate with security forces to give early information such that the government would be able to intervene to save people’s lives. This is what I wanted to deliver to everybody,” he added.
