KAMPALA – Authorities from South Sudan and Uganda on Monday discussed ways to curb trans-border revenue leakages to boost revenue collections at borders.
The meeting between the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General, John Musinguzi and his South Sudan counterpart, Africano Mande took place in Kampala.
The two leaders also discussed the implementation of the new cargo tracking system.
Mande said they agreed to eliminate fraud by individuals masquerading as revenue authority staff.
“I have tasked our people to profile the gaps we have in customs so that we can benefit from your experience. We do not want to invent a new model, but rather run from the existing ones in the region,” he stressed.
The Assistant Commissioner for Field Services at URA, Geoffrey Okaka urged joint efforts to eliminate leakages.
“We shall have to sensitize sector players like associations, transporters and taxpayers,” he said.
He said stakeholders should be sensitized to ensure smooth implementation and adoption of the system.
