Ugandan doctor arrested in Lakes State after 12-year-old girl dies following injection

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, Lakes State Police Spokesman Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac confirmed the arrest, stating the girl died while receiving treatment on April 1.

YIROL – Police in South Sudan’s Lake States have detained a Ugandan doctor after a 12-year-old girl died following an injection at his clinic in Yirol town of Yirol West County.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, Lakes State Police Spokesman Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac confirmed the arrest, stating the girl died while receiving treatment on April 1.

He did not identify the doctor.

“The information we received on April 1, 2024, is that of a 12-year-old girl that died in a clinic at Yirol civil hospital during the process of injections,” Makuac said.

“he investigation is still ongoing and due process will be followed in making sure that the suspect is given all his rights to defend himself,” he said.

The girl’s body has been transferred to a hospital for a postmortem examination. Police are awaiting the medical results.

Makuac added that this was one of several cases reported during the Easter holiday and that further updates would be provided if additional incidents emerge.
