South Sudan government had increased salaries of the civil servants and members of the organized forces by at least 400 percent.
Some of the states across the country have received their salaries and there are ongoing speculations in Bentiu that the state government was unwilling to pay the salaries based on the new structure.
But speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, Makol Koang (also known as M2K), the financial controller of the team that transported the funds from Juba to Bentiu, denied that there are intentions for the salaries to be paid based on the old structure.
Makol attributed the delays to some challenges which he said are being handled.
“It is not that the government does not want to [pay] based on the 400 percent increment. It is the arrangement, and you know anything new always has some challenges and we have to deal with it,” Makol said.
“The national government has increased the salary of government employees by 400 percent. So, it is because of a few arrangements that the state government that doesn’t know what they want,” he added.
He said that they are working to resolve some of the differences with the state government and promised to pay the salaries to the beneficiaries by at least tomorrow, Saturday or on Monday.
“We have some few differences that we are trying to solve first with the government authorities. Once those issues are handled, is when I will give a greenlight to start giving the money to the beneficiaries or the individuals,” he said.
“It will not take more than two days. We are making a small report, and we will send this report to and once they give us feedback, but it will not take more than two days and today is Friday, if we don’t give the salaries tomorrow, we will give it out on Monday,” he added.
