RUBKONA – A 26-year-old man was killed, and six other passengers were injured in a car accident involving a vehicle belonging to Vice President Taban Deng Gai.

The accident took place on Monday at 3:00PM in an area near Unity Oilfield in Unity State’s Rubkona County.

Local police authorities identified the victim as Gatkuoth Tar.

The Unity State traffic police director, Captain Domai Dak Kai, told Sudan Post on Tuesday that the accident was a result of over speeding.

“The vehicle was moving at high speed from the Kuerbuokna heading to Rubkona town and it collided with a motor bike, killing the rider on the spot and injuring six passengers inside the car,” he said. “The accident occurred on Monday at 3 Pm because there was a lot of dust, so the vehicle collided with the motorbike.”

Captain Dak said the six injured passengers are now receiving treatment at Bentiu Hospital. The vice president driver and his vehicle have been detained by the police pending investigations, according to Captain.

“After the incident, the first thing we did was to arrest the suspect and he is being detained at Bentiu Police Station until investigations are completed,” he said.

Dak urged the family of the deceased rider to remain calm as investigations continued and cautioned drivers against speeding. He also warned that motorcycles are only allowed to carry one passenger.
