JUBA, FEBRUARY 5th 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan Vice-President for Youth and Gender Cluster Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior on Saturday condemned the killings in Kajo-keji County where at least 26 people died following violence over cattle.

On February 2nd, suspected rebels belonging to National Salvation Front (NAS) attacked cattle camps belonging to the Bor community killing five people. The cattle herders responded, but by attacking villagers killing 21 people.

Speaking during a service at All Saints Cathedral in Juba on Saturday, Nyandeng extended her condolence to the families of the victims and further said that her husband, Dr. John Garang De Mabior, founder of the SPLM party, died in vain as people continue to kill themselves.

“My condolences to those who lost their lives in Kajo Keji, being the cattle herders and the residents of Kajo Keji,” she said.

“My heart is broken and I am sure if it was not for this country, Dr. John would not have died. But he died for you. But the way his people are dying now, he died in vain. Change your hearts,” she added.

The top government official said the government has failed and lack political will to bring the people of South Sudan together and urged the Church to pray for the leaders.

“Our hearts and minds are filled with bitterness. I want you to pray for political will so that we as the leadership accept one another because if we accept one another, we will not be working as parties but as one government and serving one people,” she said.

“Let us stop divisions, let us stop the bitterness in our hearts. We are one people, God created us in his own image,” she concluded.
