JUBA – South Sudan Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai, on Thursday met the British Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan Robert Fairweather and discussed the implementation process of the country’s revitalized peace agreement.

In a statement, the vice-president’s office said the two leaders discussed the proposed roadmap for implementation of the remaining tasks of the 2018 peace agreement which will pave way, at the end of the transitional period, for free and fair elections.

“Yesterday, Thursday, the Vice President of the Republic for the Infrastructure Sector, H.E Gen. Taban Deng Gai, met with the United Kingdom Special Envoy, Robert Fairweather to discuss the proposed roadmap in addition to the remaining issues regarding the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement,” the VP’s office said in a statement extended to Sudans Post.

According to the statement, “The Vice President for the Infrastructure Sector assured the Special Envoy that the presidency is committed to implementing the remaining issues of the peace agreement, which in turn will lead to free and fair elections.”

For his part, the British diplomat said he discussed with the South Sudanese vice-president the roadmap and the possible extension of the transitional period and how the international community can help the unity government in achieving its goals.

“We discussed the roadmap and the possible extension of the revitalized peace agreement and how international partners will cooperate with the Transitional Government of National Unity in order to move forward with the implementation of the revitalized agreement,” he said.
