Gattiek Gatkuoth Wichar, Press Secretary in the Office of Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, said the delegation briefed the minister on community resilience and local governance project.
“Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Manawa Peter Gatkuoth met with a delegation from World Bank and brief him about the project called community resilience and local governance,” Gatkuoth told Sudans Post on Thursday after the meeting.
On Wednesday, the World Bank and the government of South Sudan launched a $120 million project to build the capacity of local communities in South Sudan.
The five-year project, which will be implemented by the ministry of finance, will enhance community resilience and local government project; will also benefit 920,000 people in 12 of the country’s 79 counties.
“They briefed that the project will be a government-led-project and as a partner, they will provide support. This project has two components of which, one is to build the capacity of line ministries,” said Gatkuoth.
Gatkuoth said the project will equip experts at line ministries with skills to respond to any environmental challenges in the country.
“When we talk of this project, it includes all institutions that are concerned with environments such as the Ministry of Wildlife, the Ministry of Environment, and other line ministries,” he said.
“The project will develop the capacity of these institutions and help train technical experts with technical skills on how to respond to environmental challenges.”
