JUBA – South Sudan’s outspoken activist Edmund Yakani has condemned Wednesday’s shooting and the subsequent wounding of Miss Africa South Sudan 2021 Josephine Kiden Simon, saying it is a complete criminality.

While walking on one of the streets in Konyokonyo on Wednesday evening, Ms. Josephine was shoot and wounded in her right arm and was rushed to a local hospital where she continues to receive medical attention.

The suspect has not yet been arrested and the police authorities say that the reason for her shooting has remaining a mystery as the suspect has remained at large.

In a statement to Sudans Post, Yakani who is also the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) condemned the attempted murder of the young woman and urged the government to find and prosecute the culprit.

“CEPO strongly condemns the attempt to kill Miss Deaf Africa 2021. This is a criminal act and the government should pursue the perpetrator seriously and bring him/her or them to book. This is totally unacceptable act and act of enemies of human progress and societal development,” Yakani said.

Yakani further said that “the suspect being his act of shooting Miss Deaf Africa is totally a criminal and should be punished by a competent court of law immediately once he is arrested by the police.”
