JUBA — South Sudan activist Edmund Yakani is appealing to the leadership of neighboring Sudan to engage South Sudan parties proactively in order for them to recommit to full implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

This comes a day after Sudanese foreign minister Ali el Sadig arrived in the capital Juba to hold talk with President Salva Kiir Mayardit on bilateral ties and the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

The presidency yesterday said in a statement following a meeting between Kiir and the visiting Sudanese foreign minister that the two leaders discussed ties and peace implementation.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday received and held a meeting with Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali al- Sadiq on how to foster the existing bilateral relations between South Sudan and Sudan,” the presidency statement reads in part.

“They also discussed about the status of the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement,” it added.

CEPO WELCOMES HIGH-LEVEL VISIT

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, Activist Yakani who is also the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) said his organization welcomes the visit by the Sudanese foreign minister and hopes to see Sudan playing proactively role in pushed of South Sudan leaders to recommit to peace implementation.

“CEPO welcomes the Sudanese foreign minister Ali el Sadig arrived in Juba,” Yakani said.

“It is essential for Sudan leadership to be pro-active on the implementation process of the revitalized agreement because it is  one of the guarantors of the agreement and at the same time the incumbent chair of IGAD,” he added.

He further stress that the “CEPO wish that sudan leadership will hold South Sudan parties accountable on their primary responsibility to implement the peace agreement.”
