JUBA – Authorities in South Sudan’s Lakes State have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of killing his father in Yirol East County.

The incident occurred in Acholdit village, Yali Payam, on Sunday evening around 7:30 PM, according to Lakes State police spokesman Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac.

“We have registered several isolated cases in Lakes State, and yesterday, a tragic incident occurred in Yirol East County,” said Maj. Mabor. “A 30-year-old man killed his father with a spear.”

Maj. Mabor explained that the incident unfolded after the man returned home late, armed with a gun, and began assaulting his sister. The argument reportedly started because the sister had gone to a traditional dance without permission.

“When his father tried to intervene and separate them using a stick, the young man speared his father, resulting in his immediate death,” he said.

The case was reported to the police, who quickly intervened and arrested the suspect. “The young man is currently in police custody in Yirol East County, awaiting investigation,” Maj. Mabor added.

This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns about violence in the region, where isolated incidents like these continue to occur.
