Best Resume Font 2021: Top Typography Choices for Job Hunters

In today’s competitive job market, your resume font isn’t just about style—it’s about visibility. The right typeface ensures your qualifications are clear, professional, and easy to read—key factors that hiring managers notice first.

Best Fonts for Resumes in 2021

The ideal resume font balances professionalism and readability. Sans-serif fonts like Helvetica Neue and Arial remain timeless for their clean lines and modern appeal. For a touch of elegance, use Garamond or Georgia, which offer sophistication without sacrificing clarity. Avoid overly decorative or script fonts that hinder scanning. Pairing font weight and size strategically enhances hierarchy and flow.

Designing for Impact and Readability

Font choice works hand-in-hand with layout. Stick to 10–12 point for body text, ensuring scannability across devices. Use consistent font styles—one or two per resume—with clear distinctions between headings and paragraphs. Maintain ample white space and avoid excessive formatting that distracts from content. These typographic best practices increase first impressions and make hiring screenings more effective.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many job seekers overlook font consistency or opt for overly trendy styles that fail on PDF scans. Avoid low-contrast fonts, tiny sizes, or hybrid typefaces that confuse digital readers. Test your resume on multiple devices and print previews to confirm legibility. A polished, readable font signals attention to detail—critical for landing interviews.
