City bears brunt of power, water shortage
Problem likely to persist 
Chandigarh, September 26
The city is bearing the brunt of the ongoing power shortage in the region, which has had a direct impact on the water supply as well. Officials concede that the problem of four-five hour power cuts and irregular/low pressure water supply are likely to continue for more days. The cuts had become more pronounced during the past one week.Official sources confirmed that the UT was currently drawing approximately 140 mw power against the requirement varying between 180-240 mw.

Purchase power of college principals withdrawn
Chandigarh, September 26
In a significant move, the UT administration has stripped city college principals of all their purchase powers following widespread complaints of alleged mismanagement of funds.According to the decision, to be notified next week, principals of government colleges will now not be able to make any purchase at their whims and fancies.

Man dies of electrocution

A labourer died after getting electrocuted in Palsora village here today.The police said Kulwinder was trying to fix an illegal power connection at his residence when he came in contact with a naked electricity wire and received an electric shock.

Swine Flu
Ambala student tests positive
Chandigarh, September 26
Another patient was tested positive for the Swine Flu in the city today, whereas seven samples of suspected cases were colleted and sent for test by the UT health department. The student is stated to be in critical condition and is on ventilator.

Harpreet Singh, alias Heera, an alleged BKI activist, who was arrested yesterday, was remanded in seven days police custody by a local court today.While being produced in the court, the public prosecutor sought 14 days remand as the suspect had to be taken to Jaiselmer, Rajasthan, in connection with the visits of the module members for bringing the consignment of explosives and arms.
