 A fire broke out in the local branch of Allahabad Bank here this morning, causing a loss of over Rs 6
lakh. The branch is situated on the ITI Road in the town. Some passersby noticed smoke emanating from the bank building and informed the fire brigade.

12,747 tonnes of paddy purchased, says DC

 Different purchase agencies have so far lifted 12,747 tonne paddy from farmers.
Stating this, Deputy Commissioner Dipinder Singh said Pungrain had so far purchased 2,325 tonne paddy, whereas
Markfed, Punsup, Punjab Agro, FCI and Warehouse had purchased 3,824, 2,394, 1,840, 625 and 1,260 tonne paddy, respectively.

        2 held for snatching

          The police has arrested two youngsters for allegedly snatching a mobile phone form a woman in Sector 32.
Babita of Ram Darbar, Phase 1, alleged that Rohit and Surya Parkash, both residents of Sector 32, were caught red-handed while snatching her mobile phone from near Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, on Monday night.

        Undertrial gives police the slip

          An undertrial, Tarlochan Singh, gave the Punjab Police the slip and fled from
ISBT, Sector 43, today evening. The police said that accused was brought to the city to produce him in a local court at Sector 17 and when the two cops, along with
