Canal threatens to disrupt Aerocity plans

The virtually defunct Dasmesh canal project has played spoilsport in the ambitious Aerocity housing project of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). Minor fire at PGI
Chandigarh, June 13
A minor fire broke out today at the third floor of the Nehru Hospital at the PGI near the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) ward.As per the report, the fire occurred in the afternoon due to short circuit in a store where old furniture of hospital is dumped. The store is located near the NICU where children suffering from breathing diseases are kept. An attendant saw smoke coming out of the store.

PU to get direct funds from MHRD

A team of 40 girl cadets of the senior and junior wing of the NCC left for trekking on the All-India NCC Trekking Expedition. The trekking expedition is being organised by the NCC Directorate for Punjab and Haryana in Himachal Pradesh.

Four houses burgled
Ambala, June 13
As many as four theft incidents were reported in Ambala City late last night. The thieves targeted posh colonies like Model Town and Palika Vihar.According to information, thieves decamped with jewellery and cash from a house located in Virat Nagar, near Model Town. The owner of the house, Surjeet Singh, in his complaint to the police said thieves entered the house by breaking the grill of the window. He said the thieves took away jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 14,000 in cash.

Tourist-friendly traffic policy formulated
Ropar, June 13
The Ropar police has formulated a tourist friendly policy to check harassment caused to tourists.SSP Ropar, LK Yadav said, “It has come to my notice that vehicles ferrying tourists are often stopped without any reason. At times, traffic cops ask for irrelevant documents apart from permit and vehicle documents from drivers and harass them.”

Motorcycle stolen
Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Lohgarh village in Barnala district, reported to the police alleging that someone had stolen his motorcycle (HR-03-J-5912) from Sector 49 on May 28. A case of theft has been registered.

Rs 30-lakh robbery case
One more arrested
Panchkula, June 13
The police has arrested one more person in the burglary case in which thieves had decamped with laptop and LCDs worth Rs 30 lakh from a showroom in Sector 9 on November 21.

74 booked for traffic violations

The police booked 74 motorists for various traffic rules violations in the city last night.The police said keeping in view the increasing incident of snatching and thefts in the city and ruckus created by anti-social elements during late night hours outside discotheques, a special drives was conducted in the city and in adjoining areas.
