Construction cost shoots up as sand price skyrockets

 With sand prices skyrocketing, those planning to construct or renovate their houses are in deep trouble as the construction cost has suddenly shot up.
        
        The sand, which was available at Rs 12-13 per foot some 10 days ago, is now being sold at Rs 20 per foot. People are reluctant to start construction activity hoping the sand price may fall in the coming days.

Road rage turns ugly
 
Ludhiana, September 18
 
        Road rage took an ugly turn when a stone hurled during a scuffle smashed a window glass of a gurdwara at Phase VIII in Focal Point today.
        
        The incident took place  this evening when Gurvinder Singh and Balkar Singh, who were on their way to the gurdwara, met with an accident. The duo, who were on a motorcycle, had gone to meet one Mahinder Singh. As they reached the gurdwara, their motorcycle hit another bike. 
 
Three contract killers held

behind Ravi's death, who was found murdered in Jodhawal Basti on March 22 last

2-day Kisan Mela to focus on improving soil health

        Preparations are on full swing for the forthcoming on-campus Kisan Mela on September 21 and 22 at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, will preside over the farmers' fair, based on the theme "Pawan Guru Pani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahatt (save air, water and soil for posterity)".

        After a resident highlighted anomalies in the construction of roads in the city, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission has taken prima facie cognisance of the matter and has directed the MC Commissioner to get the matter inquired and submit a report before December 31.

        The auction of three groups of sand mining
        at Parjia Biharipur village will be held through e-Auction on September 25.

Burglars strike at three places

        Three separate incidents of burglary were reported here within 24 hours. In the first incident, an office at Golak Capital Market was reportedly burgled on Monday night. The burglars took away cash worth Rs 3.7 lakh from an almirah after breaking its locks. 
 
Two peddlers held with 25 sacks of poppy husk
 
Jagraon, September 18
 
        The Jagraon police has arrested two persons belonging to an inter-state gang of drug peddlers and seized 25 sacks of poppy husk from the truck they were travelling on. The accused have been identified as Ankit Kumar, a resident of Sangarh, and Anil Kumar, a resident of Vanpura in Mansaur district of Madhya Pradesh. 
 
Two arrested for killing, robbing truck driver

Two persons, who were on the run after slitting the neck of a truck driver at
Pipli in Kurukshetra, were nabbed at Transport Nagar by the Haryana Police
