Rs 6 lakh recovered, man held

        The city police arrested a person with Rs 6 lakh unaccounted money near MBD Mall on Ferozepur Road today. The accused has been identified as Rajbir Singh, alias Gagan Deep Singh, alias Jolly, a resident of
Dakha.

10 pistols, 7-kg gold, 18 kg of silver seized

        The Khanna district police sealed all four major points on the highways and recovered a number of pistols, gold, silver and some
        other items. Talking to The Tribune, acting SSP of the Khanna district police Hardial Singh Mann said that police had set up checkpoints at Rara Sahib,
Neelon, Doraha and Machhiwara and searched all vehicles, including scooters, motorcycles, cars and buses. |

 Riding on unexpected sales during Navratri and Dasehra, city traders are looking at Divali with great hopes. Having no dearth of money, city residents celebrate festivals in a lavish manner. Markets are flooded with crackers, decorated with lights and are choc-a-block with festive goodies.

 Eco-friendly crackers are all set to lessen pollution and noise this Divali. Cheap and eco-friendly, these are available in different varieties.
 Some residents have decided not to use crackers at all this Divali, while others plan to go for eco-friendly crackers which cause less smoke and noise.

MC to auction 3 key
properties

        In order to generate extra funds, the cash-strapped Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has decided to auction three of its key properties. These properties include 5,917 sq yards of land near Tehsil Office on Hambran Road, a 9,820 sq yard site near Dairy Complex on Hambran Road and a commercial site adjoining Keys Hotel near Pakhowal Road.

        The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) today conducted a draw of lots for the allotment of residential plots measuring 125 square yards each in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Colony to 73 eligible applicants.

        Actors Kunal Kapoor and Huma Qureshi along with producer Anurag Kashyap visited the city for the promotion of the movie “Luv Shuv Te Chicken Khurana”. A part of the movie was shot in the areas of the district, including Lalton
Kalan, Field Ganj, Sahnewal etc.

Relief for councillor in encroachment case

        The district administration is all set to provide “relief” to Independent councillor Veeran Bedi in a case where she is accused of allegedly “encroaching” upon land owned by the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation at Sunet village.

One MVI takes tests of hundreds of learners daily

        There is just one Motor Vehicle Inspector
        (MVI) to check the driving skills of learners in the largest district in Punjab. He is the MVI posted in Jalandhar and has also been
        given the additional charge of Ludhiana district. On an average, 200 tests are conducted daily in Ludhiana and the MVI comes to the city thrice a week to conduct the tests of learners.

        The third youth festival of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, on Tuesday witnessed literary events, cartooning and clay modelling. Dr Charan Kanwal Singh, organising secretary of the festival, said the subject for cartooning was noise pollution.

Goods worth lakhs gutted in hosiery unit

        Goods worth lakhs were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a hosiery unit at Gul Chaman Street in Old City.
        It took firemen more than five hours to douse the flames. A short circuit is said to be the  reason behind the fire.

1 killed, 2 hurt in mishaps

        One person died while two others sustained injuries in road mishaps in the past 24 hours. The first accident took place near Noorpura village on the Ludhiana-Raikot road last night when a vehicle rammed into a motorcycle and then hit a cycle near Reliance petrol station.

Renovation of Guru Nanak Stadium going at a snail’s pace

        The renovation work at the state-of-art sports complex, Guru Nanak Stadium,
Ludhiana, is going on at a snail's pace and there is little hope that the Punjab Mandi Board, which is assigned the job, will complete the work in the stipulated time.
