        UT Inspector General of Police. The 1991 batch officer of the AGMUT cadre

 Acting on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the House Allotment Committee and the Engineering Department of the UT, during a special drive to check the misuse and sub-letting of government houses for commercial purposes, detected 10 cases of the misuse or subletting of the houses. Incidentally, lower-category houses were checked during the drive.

        UT fails to declare Sukhna eco-sensitive zone

 Nearly two years have passed but the UT Administration has failed to declare an eco-sensitive zone in the Sukhna catchment area that falls in the Union Territory.
          With the declaration of an eco-sensitive zone in the catchment area, not only the forest area will be conserved but it will also help in restricting the haphazard construction around the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, as all the activities will be regulated by the administration in the area.
 
 
        MC to hand over 2 parking lots to Sec 17 traders
Chandigarh, December 10
 The Municipal Corporation has decided to hand over two underground parking lots in Sector 17 to traders. The MC has already signed a memorandum of understanding
(MOU) with the traders of Sector 17. The issue regarding the handing over of the parking lots would come up during a meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting on December 11.

        Jyoti murder CasePolice given 3-day ultimatum

 In the Jyoti murder case, a social organisation, “Crime against Women”, today met ACP Virender Sangwan and told him to solve the case within three days or face protests.

 A workshop was organised for the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, here today. The workshop aimed at enhancing the knowledge and strengthening the skills of ITBP personnel posted all over the country. It was conducted with the coordination of the DIG, ITBP, and Prof Raj Bahadur, Director-Principal GMCH-32. The training focused on proper handling of patients in field, near mountains, in deep sea and even on borders. The workshop was the first-of-its-kind in this belt where trauma, life-saving procedures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency transportation were taught for 8 hours.

 The Panjab University’s decision to reconduct the internal tests for the students of centre for social work who were absent earlier led to an argument when some students claimed they were not informed about the exam being conducted again today.

colleges250 receive Rs 6,000 annual scholarship
 Chandigarh, December 10
 Around 250 students from various colleges affiliated to Panjab University have received an annual scholarship of Rs 6,000.
        In a meeting held today, the Dean College Development Council approved the scholarships for 150 meritorious students, 18 students under the single girl child category and 40 students each under handicapped and sports quota.
 
Students spread awareness against corruption
  Chandigarh, December 10 To mark Anti-Corruption Day, the Saupin's Community Service Organisation, Chandigarh and
Mohali, organised a rally in Sector 19 here today.
        During the event, students presented a street play and song performances to spread awareness on the rampant corruption.
The event threw light on a study conducted by Transparency International's in 2008.
The study had reported that around 40 per cent of the Indians had a first-hand
experience of paying bribes or using a contact to get a job done in a public
office. Anti Corruption Day is observed on December 9 around the globe.
