Games and Music by George Young

Hi! Welcome to the website for George Young's game design projects! I was Overclocked George Game Design, now I am done making games and game manuals probably. I made a game called Rescue the Cat that I published in July 2023 on Itch.io. I tried to make a game before that but only finished the soundtrack.

A few years ago I was inspired to make some GURPS homebrew. If you don't know, GURPS is a system like Dungeons and Dragons but owned by Steve Jackson games. I made three homebrew manuals. They are Better Worldbuilding Faerun, Dragon Ball GURPS, and Better Worldbuilding Star Wars. I wanted to share my manuals at first but decided I was better off making something new that showcased what I thought was unique about my approach to game worlds with mystical powers.

So I embarked on a quest to make Rescue the Cat (previously called "The Ninth Guardian"), an RPG I made in Java that takes place in a world based on some of the content I made. I also wanted to do another game and got through the planning stages but decided I probably wasn't going to actually make it because of how time consuming it is to make a video game by yourself.

I published Rescue the Cat on Itch.io in July 2023. You can download it from there, or maybe from Steam sometime in the future (probably not), but be aware it may still have bugs.

Cambrelara, the world of RTC, is a high magic fantasy setting with superpowers. Instead of just gaining levels based on experience, characters gain power based on absorbing mortal energy and using it to enhance their super powers/ magical abilities. Honestly this aspect makes it similar to Souls-like games but that doesn't sound as interesting! Mortal energy is supposed to be the energy binding the soul to the body but it is analogous to Souls in Dark Souls, Amrita in Nioh, or Runes in Elden Ring. This game is really boring (in my opinion) to be honest, but I learned from it and it was a stepping stone to making a game I am satisfied with.

Honestly, coming back to my game design projects after a while, I am fine with what I made but see my original manuals and RTC mainly as stepping stones to my unofficial Dragon Ball manual. I don't like the BWB Star Wars or BWB Faerun manuals that much anymore - I think 5e D&D is better, and I don't know if there is 5e Star Wars but that would probably also be better. BWB Faerun makes sense for Cambrelara, which is basically like my idea of Hell (similar to the Dark Souls franchise).

It's cool I made RTC and it taught me a lot, but I don't enjoy playing it. My original three manuals were interesting, but not really playable because I was too interested in trying to simulate all the powers with GURPS. My 5e Dragon Ball manual uses material from the GURPS Dragon Ball manual, but is basically a million times better and only 69 pages long! You can view it here.
