Properties Of Rational Exponents And Radicals
One of the trickiest transitions for many algebra students is moving from radicals to rational exponents. At first glance, these concepts seem completely different. One involves roots, and the other involves fractions in exponents. However, once students grasp how they are connected, their understanding of exponents and radicals becomes much more intuitive. Building the Bridge Between Radicals and Rational Exponents Many students are comfortable simplifying square roots, such as: The square root of 16 equal 4. But when they see something like: 16 to the one-half. They often freeze. This is where we need to explicitly make the connection: 16 to the one-half equals the square root of 16 which equals 4. This is a great review activity for practicing solving radical equations that do not lead to a quadratic, and rational exponent equations. There is a boarder to eliminate distractors. There are two versions: one with letters to help with checking completed puzzles, and a blank one.
This puzzle match activity requires students to match the radical form to the rational exponent form and then evaluate the radical. This puzzle consists of 6 matches. A fun, engaging activity to summarise radicals and rational exponents. Answer key included.
This resource is a 10 questions quiz for Radicals and Rational Exponents. There are two versions (A & B). The quiz is challenging and has two application problems. A key is included. Please visit my store for full lessons and more great products.
