Create Your Own DIY Table Easel for Painting

- 1-1/4" wood screws
- Clamps
- Saw (circular saw, miter saw, or handsaw)
- Drill and driver bits
- Sandpaper (120-grit)
- Stain or paint (optional)
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Cut the Lumber
Using your saw, cut the lumber according to the following dimensions:

2. Assemble the Legs and Stretchers
Using wood glue and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, attach the stretchers to the legs to create two A-frame structures. Ensure the stretchers are 12" from the bottom of the legs.
3. Attach the Supports
Glue and screw the supports to the inside of the A-frame structures, 6" from the top. These will provide additional stability for your canvas.
4. Connect the A-Frames
Lay the A-frame structures side by side, with the legs on the outside and the stretchers touching. Attach them together using wood glue and 1-1/4" wood screws driven through the stretchers and into the legs.
5. Add the Crossbar
Center the crossbar on the top of the easel, with the ends overhanging the legs by about 1". Glue and screw it into place.
6. Attach the Plywood
Glue and screw the plywood onto the supports, creating a surface for your canvas. You can also paint or stain the easel at this point if desired.
7. Sand and Finish
Sand the easel with 120-grit sandpaper to smooth any rough edges. Wipe off the dust, and apply your chosen finish. Allow it to dry completely before using your new DIY table easel.
