WEEK ONE

Introduction to the Breath Awareness Guided Meditation

Before you begin Week One, make sure that you have read the Course Introduction.

Please read the information below before listening to the Breath Awareness Meditation for the first time. You do not need to read it each time you use the meditation, unless you feel a need.

About the Breath Awareness Meditation

Meditations using the breath are an easy way to start meditation. In this meditation, you will be guided to have your attention on your breath. You don't need to strain to keep your attention on your breath -- just focus easily on the breath. From time to time your attention will wander. That's fine. It's part of the meditation. Whenever you notice you mind has wandered, just easily bring it back to awareness of the breath. Whatever happens during the meditation is fine -- there's no right or wrong experience.

How to Listen to the Guided Meditation

You will be voice-guided for 15 minutes, and then encouraged to continue on your own for 5 minutes more. You will also be encouraged to take a couple of minutes to come out of meditation slowly.

Listen with the volume as low as possible while still being able to hear the voice comfortably and without straining.

Listen easily, allowing the words to “wash over you”. You don’t need to understand, or even hear, all the words. The words and phrases aren’t instructions which are meant to be followed precisely. They are just gentle prompts to the mind.

Now you can listen to the guided meditation. You don't need to remember anything you've read above. You'll be voice-guided each step of the way.
