Amman – August 3, 2025

ARIJ concluded an in-person training titled “Building Trust with Sources,” in Amman on July 30–31, with the participation of 15 journalists from various Jordanian media outlets (67% female). The training is part of the “Empowering Journalists for Accountable and Inclusive Investigative Journalism” project, supported by Free Press Unlimited (FPU).

The training was led by ARIJ’s Director General, Rawan Damen, and focused on establishing professional relationships based on trust between journalists and their sources. It addressed ethical approaches to handling sensitive information, particularly in investigations that rely on personal testimonies and accurate data. Various exercises provided participants with practical tools to prepare effectively for interviews, ensure the safety and confidentiality of sources, and navigate challenges related to trust-building in diverse social and psychological contexts.

The training also featured a session by Dr. Mohannad Al Azzeh, Secretary-General of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, who emphasized the importance of building trust with marginalized communities and ensuring that their voices are represented fairly. He also addressed the challenges journalists face when reporting on disability-related issues, underscoring the need to develop inclusive media narratives and strengthen collaboration between journalists and rights-based institutions.

This training is part of ARIJ’s ongoing efforts to build the capacity of journalists across the region, and to provide a safe and supportive environment that enables them to produce high-quality investigative journalism that serves the public interest and promotes transparency and accountability.
