August 21, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit is set to replace the country’s finance minister and the governor of the embattled central Bank, several government officials with direct knowledge have said.

The latest development comes a day after a senior Central Bank official said in a statement to the media that the world’s youngest country was lacking the badly needed foreign exchange reserve in the bank.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, a senior aide to Kiir said the President was making consultations within the SPLM party so that a better Candidate who would be able to handle the ongoing financial crisis is nominated.

“The President has informed the SPLM party that he will replace the minister of finance and the deputy governor of Central Bank. There are currently consultations within the party to help the President decided who is to be nominated to the two positions,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

Another government official denied reports on social media that the President had rejected the resignation of the Central Bank governor saying “nothing as such has happened and it is the President who is seeking to replace the governor.”
