KUAJOK – At least five people have been killed and four others were injured during an attack carried out by suspected armed youths from the neighboring Unity State in Gogrial East County of Warrap State in South Sudan, local authorities said.
The incident took place on Saturday night when the attackers initiated their assault on the cattle camps.
Marko Garang Anyar, the Commissioner of Gogrial East County, told Sudans Post on Thursday that five individuals, including one woman, were killed by the attackers.
Gaarang disclosed that the woman was killed in crossfire during the confrontation between the youth and the attackers.
“The attack occurred on Saturday, and this is something that we are trying to look into. We suspect that the attackers came from Unity State. As they came to the cattle camps and took heads of cattle,” Garang said.
He reported that raiders took 80 cows, and efforts to recover the cattle were unsuccessful.
Garang stated that the attack occurred in Manyang payam at Ayiidit Mangol cattle camp.
“The two cattle camps that they made attacks on include Ayiidit and Mangol cattle camps,” he said.
He said the authorities are making efforts to calm the communities of Warrap.
He called on authorities of Unity and Lakes States to remove guns from the hands of their civilians to curb cattle raiding.
The cycle of violence is being influenced by revenge killing, and youth have taken it as a source of getting wealth through raiding.
