The incident occurred on Sunday in Malek-Alell, the county headquarters. The suspect, identified only as Geng, reportedly had a long-standing feud with his wife over her refusal to give him a share of the sorghum harvest.
On the day of the incident, the argument escalated into a physical altercation. The victim, named Aluet, fled to a neighbor’s house, but Geng followed her and severely injured her.
Aluet was rushed to the Malek Primary Health Care Center, but she succumbed to her injuries.
The paramount chief of the area, Ayom Ateny Wek, confirmed the incident to Sudans Post and appealed to the public to seek advice from neighbors and relatives when conflicts arise in the family.
“I would like to appeal to the public to ask them to be more forgiving and seek advice from people in your residence to help you in addressing the concerns which bring you into problem with your partner but getting into fight which leads to spontaneous deaths is not more disastrous,” he said.
“Geng is currently in police custody awaiting trial,” Chief Ateny added, noting that there have been several similar incidents in the Pan-jap and Pan-thou areas of Aweil South County, all of which are attributed to economic hardship.
