TONJ NORTH – At least four people were killed when cattle rustlers attacked a village in Tonj North County of Warrap State on Sunday, local authorities disclosed.
The incident at Kongor village also saw dozens of animals stolen by the attackers.
The county police investigator, Col. Anei Dut said the attackers are suspected to be from Unity State.
He further revealed that four young men died while pursuing the stolen animals.
“We lost young men namely, Akot Deng Akot, Thiep Dut, Garang Mathiang and the other was an attacker whose name is not known,” stated Dut.
He said they were working with Unity State authorities to apprehend the suspects.
Last month, 11 people died when armed men raided a cattle camp in Gogrial East County of Warrap State.
Cattle raids and killings in parts of South Sudan present a major challenge to the government. In recent years, however, numerous attempts to disarm civilians have been unsuccessful.
