Ex-Awerial South commissioner elected chair of Aliab Community in Juba

The former commissioner of Awerial South County of defunct Eastern Lakes State, Kuoi Ayang Kuoi, has been elected as the new chairperson of Aliab Community in Juba.

JUBA – The former commissioner of Awerial South County of defunct Eastern Lakes State, Kuoi Ayang Kuoi, has been elected as the new chairperson of Aliab Community in Juba.

Kuoi won with 74.3% of votes, defeating veteran politician and former commissioner of defunct Awerial North County Lino Alony Muon with 25.69%, according to electoral commission which handled the voting.

Kuoi became the second Chairman of Aliab Community in Juba, replacing John Bol Tier who was elected in 2005.

“Lino Along Muon has 29 (25.69%) votes and Kuoi Ayang Kuoi has 84 (74.3) and I do hereby declared Kuoi Ayang Kuoi has the new chairman of Aliab Community,” Philip Mawut Garang, Chairman of Electoral Commission announced the results on Saturday in Juba.

Garang said the election which was held at Nyankuron cultural Center in Juba on Saturday was free, and fair.

“This is the report I got from security officers and campaign agents and observers and when they were asked if anyone has complain and they said they don’t have any complaint,” Garang said.

Garang said the position Secretary-General, Secretary Finance and others will be appointed by the new chairman.

Kuoi, in his elections manifesto vowed to unite all sections of Aliab under one Umbrella, establish community center as well as advocates for youth and graduate employment.

Lino Alony Muon welcomed the results of the elections and vowed to support new chairman.

“I have accepted and welcome the results of the elections,” Muon said after announcement of the results.

“I will join hands with you but not to work with you in the same government. I will help you with ideas to move our community forward,” Muon added.
