JUBA – The former spokesman of South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) Chol Duang has returned to South Sudan’s capital Juba, one day after resignation from the rebel group led by former South Sudan army chief General Paul Malong Awan.

Speaking to journalists following arrival at Juba International Airport this afternoon, Duang said he returned home to contribute to the peace-building process from within and said he decided to leave rebellion because peace should not be achieved through the force of the gun.

“I returned to the country to contribute to the nation from within. Building peace in the country should not be through the use of the force of the gun, we are South Sudanese and should talk at home to reach consensus,” Duang said.

Yesterday, Duang resigned without stating why he resigned.

“This is to inform my family, friends, colleagues and the general public that I have resigned as Spokesperson and members from South Sudan United Front/Army, SSUF/A under the leadership of Gen. Paul Malong Awan Anei,” Duang said in a statement yesterday.

“It has been a great privilege to have served under the wise leadership of Gen. Paul Malong Awan for the last two years, particularly in the information and policy department,” he added.
