According to Lakes State police spokesman Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, negligence by officers on duty resulted in the prisoner’s escape on March 7th.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape has been initiated subsequent to the arrest of the officers on duty that night. However, the identities of the officers have not been disclosed for privacy reasons.
“The police authorities took the initiative to apprehend four individuals who were on duty the night the inmate escaped. Currently, an ongoing investigation aims to ascertain the factors contributing to the escape,” stated Maj. Elijah.
“We have also instructed our security apparatuses to track the suspect who escaped from police custody,” he added, emphasizing that “the security situation remains calm and stable throughout the state.”
Maj. Elijah further disclosed that the arrests of the police officers occurred at different times, with two being apprehended on the day of the prisoner’s escape and the other two on subsequent days. This brings the total number of individuals under detention to four.
“In fact, there are four individuals in custody, each facing different charges under the law. Their names cannot be provided as their details are currently held at the police station,” he clarified.
“There are two police personnel arrested on the day of the incident, and two others apprehended the following day. Presently, all four police personnel are in custody as the investigation continues,” he concluded.
