KUAJOK – South Sudan soldiers who are on a disarmament campaign in the country’s Warrap state were told to rape women by General Bol Akot who is responsible for the police in the Bahr el Ghazal region, women group has said.

Last week, fighting between soldiers and armed civilians broke out in the country’s Tonj East county of Warrap state. Around 150 people were killed including 45 servicemen and over 100 civilians.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a women leader at Romich in Tonj East said around 10 women were raped after General Bol Akot ordered the soldiers to rape women following the fighting.

“About 10 women were raped. They were raped because Bol Akot ordered women to be raped as a punishment for the people of Tonj East because he said they were resisting disarmament after the fighting,” the women leader who preferred not to be named told Sudans Post from Tonj.

“This is not good. It is very sad when high-ranking leaders of this country order atrocities against civilians they are mandated to protect,” she added.
