JUBA – A South Sudan national employee of the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) has been gunned down last night by a group of five unidentified armed men at Bentiu Protection of Civilian (POC) camps, according to a camp leader.

The camp leader speaking to Sudans Post exclusively from Bentiu  POC said the gruesome incident occurred at around midnight when the group of five unidentified armed men entered the camp from the Western part of the camp to gun down the man.

“Last night, a group of armed men came inside the camp and killed a man because there is not protection inside the camp. People come with gun and leave at will without being asked,” the community official said from Bentiu, and further identified the victim as Riak Tuol.

The camp leader further revealed that insecurity has in recent months escalated within the camp following the withdrawal of the United Nations troops from the POC. He said a join police that was constituted by the government and SPLA-IO has been expelled from the camp following disagreements with the community.

“There has never been a single day skipped without criminal incidents in the camp. There were only injuries incident being reported for the last two weeks until last night,” the camp leader continued.

“There was a joint police from the government and the SPLA-IO led by Riek Machar but following misunderstanding between the community inside the camp and police led to police expulsion from Camp and the current situation ensued since there are no UN forces inside the camp,” he added.
