JUBA, JULY 5, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – Thousands of President Salva Kiir’s supporters are gathering at Juba International Airport to welcome him back from Western Bahr el Ghazal State’s capital Wau, where he on Tuesday launched his presidential campaign for the 2024 elections.

The supporters, who were waving flags and chanting slogans in support of Kiir, had been waiting at the airport since early morning.

Yesterday, Kiir accepted his nomination for president in the 2024 elections and said he is determined to  go for it.

“Am deeply touched by your endorsement of me to be the SPLM flag bearer in 2024 and your continued support for our historic party gives me confidence that we stand together as we go towards elections next year. It is also on this basis that I wholeheartedly accept your endorsement,” he said.

“This is your endorsement and I have accepted it. For those people who are still doubting about the SPLM unity, today Bahr el Ghazal has spoken.

“To our five SPLM party chairpersons in the greater Bahr el Ghazal, please receive my deep gratitude for the confidence you bestowed on me,” he added.
