JUBA – Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) has notified its customers of total power shutdown in the whole of Juba city due to maintenance work from 6 am to 6 pm on Monday.

The country’s main power distributor said in a statement issued on Saturday that the temporary power disruption expected to take place on Monday is due to routine maintenance.

“JEDCO takes this opportunity to inform its esteemed customers that Monday, July 19, 2021, there will be annual preventive maintenance on Juba Substation and Distribution Network,” read part of the statement seen by Sudans Post.

“Therefore, there will be total power interruption due to this exercise,” it added.

The power supply will be restored after 6 once maintenance works are completed, according to a statement from JEDCO.

“JEDCO apologies in advance for the temporary inconvenience,” said statement.

South Sudan launched its first electricity grid and power distribution last year.

The country has one of the lowest electricity accesses with over 90 percent of its 13 million population lacking access to electricity.

The Africa’s youngest nation plans to connect power from Uganda’s 400 MW Karuma dam by 2023 to connect its border towns.
