Kenyan envoy, Machar discuss implementation of the revitalized peace agreement

JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and visiting Kenyan envoy, Stephen Kalonzo has on Thursday met in Juba and discussed the implementation of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.

Machar who is also the SPLM-IO chairman is a signatory to the 2018 peace deal which was mediated by regional leaders including the neighboring Kenya.

In a statement this evening, Machar’s office said the meeting between the two leaders discussed the progress made in the implementation of the peace agreement as well as challenges that are facing the transition.

“The visiting Kenyan Special Envoy and former Vice President, H.E. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, today discussed with the First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the progress made and challenges faced in the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS),” said the statement by Machar.

Speaking to the state broadcaster SSBC following the meeting, Kalonzo said they discussed a range of issues including the pavement of the Kenya-South Sudan highway urging the government in Juba to do its part.
