JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has rejected the resignation of the country’s Central Bank governor, a day after the country announced that it has run out of foreign reserve exchange.

Yesterday, the second deputy of the Central Bank of South Sudan (CBOSS), Daniel Kech Pouch, said the country had nothing in foreign exchange reserves at the Central Bank.

“It is difficult for us at the moment to stop this rapidly increasing exchange rate, because we do not have resources, we do not have reserves,” Pouch told Reuters on Thursday.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a senior government official said the President has this week rejected the resignation of Jamal Wani Abdalla who was appointed in January this year from his position as governor of the Central Bank.

“Hon. Jamal Abdalla has tendered his resignation to President Salva Kiir as governor of Central Bank. But the President has rejected it,” the official who refused to be named said from Juba.

Senior government official also tells Sudans Post that current minister of Trade and Industry Kuol Athian Mawien has also turned down an offer from President Kiir to replace Salvatore Garang Mabiordit as the minister of finance.
