JUBA, JULY 5, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday afternoon returned to Juba after addressing a huge SPLM rally in Western Bahr El Ghazal State’s capital Wau.

Kiir on Tuesday accepted his endorsement by the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) as the group’s flag bearer for presidency in the upcoming election scheduled for end of the transitional period in 2024.

The president who is also the chairman of the SPLM party was received at Juba International Airport by his deputy Hussein Abdelbagi of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) as well as other senior members of the government.

“The President was also received by SPLM leaders, supporters from Central Equatoria State,” said a statement from the presidency.

During his speech in Wau, Kiir urged the people of Bahr el Ghazal to continue supporting his cause for development and said that he was determined to go for elections in December 2024 as required by the revitalized peace agreement.
