JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this afternoon met the Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok who is in Juba to attend peace talks between holdout groups and the ruling Sudanese coalition.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting with Kiir, Sudanese foreign minister Mariam Sadig al Mahdi said the two men discuss issues of bilateral ties and peace process with opposition groups in the two countries.

“They discuss issues of bilateral interests ranging from economic cooperation to the peace process between governments and opposition groups in the two countries,” the top Sudanese diplomat said.

Hamdok is expected to attend peace talks between his government and holdout Sudan Liberation Movement/Arm (SLM/A) led by renegade Abdel Wahid Nur and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North (SPLM-N) led by Abdel Aziz Adam al Hilu.

The two are not part of the October 2020 peace deal that was negotiated in Juba by the government in Juba. They have recently expressed interest in continuing talks with the government in Khartoum to end war all over the country.
