Opinion | Longevity to our peace and freedom

OPINION — It is always in our splendid dreams that we would like to have centuries of peace and freedom. It is always in our prayers that this country will be at peace for hundreds of years. If it’s a dream, then dreams come true.

We would like to wish our country longevity, as peace is the only way we can move forward. The formation of battalions is a waste of time and gives more woes, besides creating many foes. Our most heartfelt and concrete wishes for our leaders are that they remain vigilant and listen to their citizens. They have to cheer them up when it comes to a time of happiness and weep with them when it’s a time of sorrow.

It’s a dream of a young girl and boy in the camps to return home. They do often tell their parents how badly they have missed home. You can sleep in millions of decent houses and wake up fine. But sleeping on the streets at home means a lot to your entire life.

This is why everyone’s dream is peace. We want to feel how romantic it feels when you move at night under street lights without fear. We want to feel how charming it can be when one chooses to travel across the country without a highway hijack. This is where every South Sudanese puts his or her hopes.

We no longer want to fear disclosing our identities, our tribes, and our languages. We want to feel the joys and rights of being a citizen. We hope to live in a world where there are no threats to public speaking. Freedom will be the gospel that everyone will volunteer to preach.

Mothers no longer want to give birth in a run; they’re willing to deliver their sons and daughters in the treasures of citizenship rights. Old people want to take their last breaths in harmony and without fear. This is our hope and the destiny we wish to see from today till infinity.

The inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were broken by the violence. This is what we are ceasing through our generous acceptance and non-tribalistic campaigns. Through the lenses of our freedom fighters led by Dr John Garang de Mabior, the future of this nation is bright. We hope to be at certain heights of joy.

We must disarm our minds and hearts. This violence starts from having weapons in our minds. If our minds no longer produce weaponry ideas, if they don’t think about murders and all sorts of injustices, then this violence will be buried. Our souls have to recover from the injuries of past violence.

It’s not the eleventh hour to give up on our agitation; it’s just the beginning of our new journey. A journey to prolonged liberty, peace, and the pursuit of happiness. Tell everyone in South Sudan’s corridors or wherever the war has left them that another day to celebrate, like the 9th of July 2011, is insight. Finally, we will be free and peaceful at last.
