JUBA — South Sudan’s main armed opposition group SPLM-IO led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has said that SPLM-IO spokesman Mabior Garang de Mabior is longer the group’s spokesman and head of the national committee for information.

This comes a year after Mabior submitted a resignation to Machar from the position subsequently following his resignation from being deputy minister of interior after which he described the SPLM-IO as ‘Luak’ or hut in English.

In a communique signed by Machar following a meeting of the SPLM-IO Political Bureau in Juba, the main armed opposition group said it has accepted the resignation of Mabior as Chairman of the National Committee of Information and Public Relations which was submitted over a year ago.

“[The Political Bureau” accepted the resignation of Cde Mabior Garang De Mabior as Chairperson of National Committee for Information and Public Relations,” the communique which also discuss recent infighting within the main armed opposition group reads in part.

The meeting, according to the statement, further “called for the fast-tracking of the formation of Unified Command, graduation and deployment of the Unified Forces.”

It also “Condemned in the strongest terms possible the unilateral formation of government of Ruweng and Abyei Administrative Areas and calls upon the Chief Administrators to revoke these decisions and to adhere to the power sharing agreement on the Administrative Areas.”

It then urged other peace partners “peace partners to adhere to the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in letter and spirit.”
