JUBA – A body set up to conduct reconciliation among the people of Mayom County of Unity state has on Thursday met South Sudan’s presidential security advisor Tutkew Gatluak Manimeh and submitted a number of recommendations it believes would improve people’s lives.

The Bul Peace Initiative is a peace mechanism tasked to reconcile politicians of the Mayom County of Unity state as well as the general civil population in Mayom. It is headed by South Sudan opposition politician Bapiny Manytuil Wijang.

In a statement on Thursday, Brigadier Samuel Chan Mut Turoah said the committee which visited Mayom last month on a peace mission has returned to Juba and has met Tutkew Gatluak to brief the security advisor on their activities and then submitted a number of recommendations one of which is the improvement of security.

“The delegation of Bul Initiative for Peace and Reconciliation headed by Lt. Gen. Bapiny Manytuil Wejang Wuor briefed the Presidential Advisor for National Security Affairs, Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime, on the progress made so far in their recent visit to Mayom County headquarters and all the twelve (12) Payams,” the statement extended to Sudans Post reads in part.

It said that the committee “submitted their final report to the office of Hon. Tut Gatluak, the presidential Advisor for National Security Affairs. The report entails range of activities to be carried out before and after the conference is conducted.”

According to the statement, the report outlines a number of “challenges facing Bul Community as well as with the neighboring communities of Warrap and Bentiu (Unity state) as whole. These challenges includes the poor infrastructure development (such as roads linking Mayom county headquarters and its twelve (12) Payams, improper health care system, lack of schools, and the need for more clean drinking water facilities), Both internal (within Mayom) and external security threats (Neighboring communities) these includes rampant growth of cattle raiding.”

“Gen Bapiny Manytuil emphasized much on the significance improving the community security that will lead to development and stability of the entire nation. He urged the presidential advisor to prioritize the interest of the local people by addressing most of their important concerns.

“Gen Bapiny Manytuil commended the role played by Hon. Tut Gatluak Manime in his guest for peace to prevail in Mayom and her neighboring communities.  He also acknowledged the role played by the president H.E Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit in making sure that the whole country is in peace.”
