NDM spokesman resigns citing ‘double standards’

JUBA, AUGUST 18, 2023 (SUDANS POST) — The spokesman of South Sudan’s opposition National Democratic Movement (NDM) Mahmoud Akot has resigned, accusing the group’s leadership of double standards.

In a resignation letter addressed to Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, the chairman of the group, Akot said that he had conclude that the movement’s priorities and structures were not aligned, and that the leadership had been inconsistent in its application of its principles.

“I see that the Movement’s priorities and structures are not going well, due to contradictions and double standards that have appeared in your leadership recently in many situations related to the public interest in the country,” Akot wrote.

He also accused the leadership of engaging in “bad practices” towards some members, such as “conspiracy, negligence and marginalization”.

“The nature of your Leadership in the Movement is the worst, due to the bad practices towards some members, such as conspiracy, negligence and marginalization of some members, just for superficial considerations,” he said.

Akot’s resignation is a blow to the NDM, and the party has not yet responded to the accusations.
