“He is in Turkey, and he has been on treatment from his knee since he was in detention in Kober,” one security official with direct knowledge of Bashir’s travel to Turkey told Sudans Post on Friday.
Bashir fled from prison in April when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked Kober Prison following the outbreak of war in the capital Khartoum.
Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Darfur.
Turkey is not a member of the ICC, so it is not obligated to arrest Bashir.
In December 2017, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “laughed off” a demand from the ICC to arrest el-Bashir when he attended a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.
