RUMBEK – One person was killed, and eight others wounded in clashes involving armed youth from Tonj East County of Warrap and Lakes State’s Cueibet County, according to Lakes State Police spokesperson Elijah Mabor Makuac.

The clashes occurred on Monday in Abarkou and Makuei areas of Cueibet county, Mabor told Sudans Post on Tuesday.

He stated that the incident involved the Jarwau section of Tonj East and youth from Cueibet.

“Police are investigating the root cause of the conflicts between the people,” he said.

Mabor confirmed that two people died while the injured were rushed to the hospital.

“The casualties reported were only on the side of Lakes State. We don’t know about the other side of Warrap State,” said the police spokesperson.

“About 10 villages were also burned in that area, starting from Abarkou and including many other villages under Tiaptiap Payam,” he added.

Mabor said the situation was now calm, with plans to deploy forces in areas bordering Lakes and Warrap states.
